Q: Why does your website change colors?

A: You will notice that our website changes colors with the liturgical seasons:

Advent - Blue is used for its references to hope.

Christmas - White/Gold is used, as a reference to the purity of the newborn Christ, and to our light and joy in him.

Lent - Purple is indicated, as the stark color of repentance and solemnity.

Holy Week - Scarlet is the color for Holy Week, as it suggests the deep color of blood.

Easter - White/Gold as the color of joy in the Resurrection.

Pentecost - Red as the color of fire is used when we remember the tongues of fire descended on the crowd in Jerusalem.

Other Sundays of the year use green to indicate our growth in faith as we follow the teachings and ministry of Christ.

Immanuel's Vision Keepers

Greg and Terri Hummel were honored as Immanuel’s Vision Keepers at the Interfaith Action of Evanston annual Vision Keepers Dinner on February 19. Everyone at Immanuel knows what a well-deserved honor this is for the Hummels.

Greg has been Immanuel’s organist for nearly 40 years and he and Terri have been a part of the congregation all that time. Greg has extended the vision of Immanuel by establishing the Immanuel Church Music Outreach Endowment Fund and proposing the organ award scholarship as a use of that fund. He has been active in community development and has done pro bono legal work for Bethel New Life in Chicago (as well as for Immanuel). Terri has been active in social ministry and fellowship in the congregation and in a number of community charitable organizations. Terri and Greg have children and grandchildren who are active at Immanuel. We do well to honor them as our Vision Keepers.
